Creative Confidence
One book, placed in its field — what this book gets right, where it goes further than the rest, and what the rest of the field adds.

The problem
Innovation and Impact Outcomes erodes when it is left to instinct instead of method.
You were taught the moves piecemeal, never the whole model.

Step 1 of 5 · Design Thinking Practice
A concept that fails any one of desirability, feasibility, or viability is not a candidate yet.
Misconception
Practitioners treat design thinking as a linear pipeline with a whiteboard sprint at the start and a launch at the end.
Reality
It is a loop that keeps returning to the human before returning to the build; the phases interleave, and you re-enter inspiration whenever synthesis reveals your framing was wrong.

Step 2 of 5 · Guided Mastery (Small Successes)
Confidence is a byproduct of accumulated small wins, not a personality trait you either have or lack.
Misconception
People believe confidence must precede action—that you build courage first and then attempt the hard thing.
Reality
The sequence runs the opposite way: a completed small success produces the evidence of capability, and belief follows the accomplishment rather than preceding it.

Step 3 of 5 · Empathy with End Users
What people do diverges from what they say—design for the behavior, not the report.
Misconception
Empathy means asking users what they want and then building it.
Reality
People rationalize and misreport their own behavior; the richest insights come from watching what they actually do—especially the workarounds and frustrations they've stopped noticing.

Step 4 of 5 · Bias Toward Action
A rough prototype in hand teaches more than a flawless plan on paper.
Misconception
A bias toward action means being reckless or skipping thinking altogether.
Reality
It means front-loading learning by making cheap, disposable attempts—the thinking happens through the doing, not instead of it, and each attempt sharpens the next decision.

Step 5 of 5 · Growth Mindset
The phrase 'I'm not a creative person' is a testable hypothesis, and it's usually false.
Misconception
A growth mindset is simple optimism—believing hard work always pays off and telling people 'you can do anything.'
Reality
It is specifically the belief that effort and strategy change your capabilities over time; empty praise without the effort-strategy link actually reinforces a fixed mindset by making outcomes feel like verdicts on innate talent.
